چکیده
In 1991, the DARPA Knowledge Sharing Effort ([88], p. 37) envisioned a new way to build intelligent systems. It proposed the following: Building knowledge-based systems today usually entails constructing new knowledge bases from scratch. It could be instead done by assembling reusable components. System developers would then only need to worry about creating the specialized knowledge and reasoners new to the specific task of their system. This new system would interoperate with existing systems, using them to perform some of its reasoning. In

Theoretical foundations and engineering tools for building ontologies as reference conceptual models
Perhaps the most fundamental notion underlying the desiderata for a successful Semantic Web is Semantic Interoperability. In this context, ontologies have been more and more recognized as one of the enabling technologies. This paper defends the view that an approach which neglects the role of ontologies as reference conceptual models cannot meet the requirements for full semantic interoperabili...
متن کاملContributions to the Ontological Foundation of Knowledge Modelling
In the present paper we make some contributions to the emerging eld of so-called ontological engineering. In detail, we discuss the principles underlying knowledge acquisition from an axiomaticdeductive point of view. Then we turn to the notion of an ontology and the connection between ontology and knowledge systems. An ontology comprises ontologically basic relations such as membership, part-w...
متن کاملA Framework for Evaluating the Ontological Quality of Languages in MDE Environments
Information system development methods that follow the model-driven engineering (MDE) approach commonly prescribe the use of multiple viewpoints. Viewpoints have associated languages and notations according with the MDE approach, and they often have differents abstraction and granularity levels. The enactment of such methods in projects entails risks that threaten its success. For instance, the...
متن کاملKnowledge Level Engineering Ontological Analysis
Knowledge engineering suffers from a lack of formal tools for understanding domains of interest. Current practice relies on an intuitive, informal approach for collecting expert knowledge and formulating it into a representation scheme adequate for symbolic processing. Implicit in this process, the knowledge engineer formulates a model of the domain, and creates formal data structures (knowledg...
متن کاملA linguistic ontology of space for natural language processing
a r t i c l e i n f o a b s t r a c t We present a detailed semantics for linguistic spatial expressions supportive of computational processing that draws substantially on the principles and tools of ontological engineering and formal ontology. We cover language concerned with space, actions in space and spatial relationships and develop an ontological organization that relates such expressions...
